From 1 April 2020 – 31 March 2021 we managed a record 14,389 tree sites, a 30% increase on the year before and well above our target of 8,000 sites for the year.
While the Level 4 lockdown initially slowed down our vegetation management process, our increased use of new techniques such as mulching machinery kept us on schedule.
LiDAR also proved valuable to our tree management programme, allowing our team to view our network – and any vegetation encroaching on our electricity lines – from the sky. This allows us to proactively trim or remove trees before they cause an outage.
An overview of our work over the year:
- Trimming at 3,815 sites
- Removing at 10,185 sites
- Spraying at 390 sites
