Maintaining streetlights
How streetlights work, and what happens when there’s an outage.
Reporting an outage
If you notice streetlights are not working, report it to your local council.
Council contractors investigate all streetlight outages in the first instance and if the issue is with council-owned equipment they make the repairs.
If the issue is with Powerco-owned equipment, the council contacts Powerco to arrange a repair.
What causes outages
Streetlights can go out for a number of reasons such as blown bulbs or pole fuses, issues with relay equipment, or with the power supplying them.
When there are a few streetlights out bulbs may need replacing, or there may be a problem with the control box relay.
When multiple streetlights are out, there may be a problem with the power supply or substation relay.
