Working together to stay safe
We want everyone who lives, works and plays near our networks to be safe. Whether you use electricity, gas, or both, it’s important to be aware of overhead power lines above, and cables and pipes underground so you can keep clear of them and avoid being harmed. Make sure you know what to do in an emergency and if you see anything you’re concerned about, let us know.
Contractor safety
Your safety while working around our electricity and gas networks is important to us. To ensure your safety and that of those you’re working with, you must maintain a safe distance from overhead power lines, as well as underground cables and pipes. Knowing what to do while on the job, means you can go home safe and well to your whānau and friends each and every day.
Close Approach Consent
If work on your site will be close to overhead lines or underground cables, you need to let us know by filling in the Close Approach Consent form, so we can ensure you're working safely.
Arrange a safety disconnection
To stay safe while working around the home, arrange a temporary service line disconnection. Contact your energy retailer, giving 24 hours notice. It’s free during business hours. Or, if your connection is no longer needed, apply for permanent disconnection.
