Powerco launches new gas public safety campaign

Powerco has launched a new public safety campaign to raise awareness about the importance of reporting suspected gas leaks.

While the message that gas leaks can be dangerous and need to be reported is a serious one, the campaign is designed to capture peoples’ attention with a striking image and a touch of humour.

General Manager of Health and Safety Julie McAvoy says the campaign delivers a simple but important message in a memorable way.

“We want our customers to report any suspicious gas smells to us, so we can investigate them. Whether they turn out to be gas leaks or not, it’s better that people let us know if they think they smell gas, rather than ignoring it,” she says.

“Safety is always our highest priority. Our campaigns help ensure people stay safe as they live and work around our networks.”

Powerco Gas Operations Manager Don Elers agrees.

“Our field crews are available 24/7 to investigate suspected gas leaks. We encourage anyone to contact us through our emergency line on 0800 111 848 if they have concerns.”

Powerco regularly uses campaigns to build public awareness around keeping safe on its electricity and gas networks.

Powerco’s campaign will be running from Tuesday 13 July – Sunday 15 August across the regions where it operates the gas network – Taranaki, Manawatu, Hawke’s Bay and Wellington.

The campaign will run in newspapers, online, on bus backs and on radio.
