Maintaining power to Moturoa
Maintaining supply in Moturoa
With Transpower decommissioning its New Plymouth Power Station grid exit point, we needed to ensure ongoing electricity supply for our customers in the Moturoa area.
The best option for our customers was to install new 33kV cables from Transpower’s Carrington St grid exit point to our Moturoa zone substation. We worked with Transpower on this. We also replaced the switchgear and power transformers at Moturoa to ensure they kept working well (separate to the $10m cable investment).
During CPP – Year One we:
- Laid 6.5km of dual circuit ducting in open trenches along the cable route and reinstated the road
- Installed the 33kV cables in the ducts
- Constructed a new building, installed new larger transformers and begun installation of switchboards at Moturoa zone substation
The work was completed in December 2019.
