Wild weather causes power outages - 4:30pm update

Wednesday, November 03, 2021
Strong winds continue to cause power outages across Powerco’s network today.

Approximately 5,200 customers are currently without power - mainly in the Taranaki and South Waikato areas.

In Taranaki 3,100 customers are without power, and 1,512 customers are affected in South Waikato.

Field crews are out reconnecting customers where it is safe to do so but conditions are challenging, with wind and rain forecast to continue through the evening and into tomorrow.

In some areas there’s work to remove trees before power can be restored, and the strong winds also mean it’s unsafe to scale ladders to access pole tops.

Those factors mean some of our North Taranaki and South Waikato customers may be off overnight.

Powerco thanks customers for their patience.

The latest outage information, including estimated restoration times, can be found on Powerco’s website here: https://www.powerco.co.nz/outages

In the event of an emergency such as lines coming down, people should stay well clear of lines and call Powerco’s emergency line on 0800 27 27 27 which operates 24/7.
